This past Friday and I had the chance to go to NYC for FREE!!! I went with one of my Professors who invited the Fashion Apparel Merchandising Experience (FAME) club (which I am secretary of) to tag along. I took this trip as an opportunity to learn and also as an opportunity to write a blog about my experience!!
(ps there are a lot of pictures this week)

THE TRIP:
The NYC trip started at 7am when we boarded the bus for the two hour ride up to my favorite city (at this point in my life). Our first stop for the day was a company named Lichtenberg who used to design and sell soft home-wear (sheets, conformers, blankets, curtains) but now only focus on curtains. This company visit was very insightful because I not only learned about how they run their company but I also learned that this is in-fact part of the fashion industry. This was very interesting because it showed a side of the fashion industry that I have never seen or noticed before.

Up next for the day was our free time to grab some lunch. To truly be a city girl for the day I went to shake shack for a yummy burger and fries!!! This is only my second time going to a shake shack and I have to say it is good, but I like my mom's homemade burgers better. Shake Shack was great stop though because it was fast and on the way to our next destination. I decided to throw in a picture of my friend Steph because she was a doll and took pictures of me all day long :)

After lunch:
Up next for the day was talking to employees at Merl Diamond. Meryl Diamond is a brand that handles three different lines for QVC. One of the employees that we talked to was a recent (2012) PhilaU grad!! It was great being able to see someone successfully living in the city that never sleeps who was in my shoes a couple years ago! After talking to the employees for a little about their day to day activities (dealing with sourcing materials, approving fabrics, and costing for each product) we went on a tour of the office. Then it was time to leave (unfortunately I did not get any pictures for the blog) and head to our next and last meeting. We went to a company called WindowsWear. This is actually a database and it is extremely cool (I can't wait to have it next year). So basically the database has pictures of display windows at stores like Hermes and Louis Vuitton to H&M so you can really see what is going on in the fashion industry. The best part about it is that is goes back in time so you can see what trends were prevalent during the early 2000s all the way back to the 30s!!! This database will be great for future research and projects. After talking to some employees at WindowsWear we were given a tour of the garment district. This was super cool for me because I have never been through it and I was also able to compare it to what I saw in the garment district in Paris.

THE OUTFIT
I'll keep this part short and simple. I wore black ripped jeans (American Eagle) and black turtle neck (Christmas gift). I also had on a black belt (Kohl's) and black converse (Shoe Carnival). To keep me warm during this cold and rainy weather I layered up. I threw on a flannel (Marshall's) and also my favorite denim jacket that I haven't taken off since I got back from Paris. Lastly I added a scarf in case the city got a little windy and because I really hate being cold!!
